Chelsea are closing on agreement with Santos for Deivid Washington’s signing
Chelsea are nearing an agreement with Santos for the signing of youngster Deivid Washington after their initial deal was dismissed by the Brazilian club.
According to Brazilian outlet Globo, (h/t Daily Mail) Chelsea had their first bid of £13 million rejected by Santos, but the Blues are prepared to increase their second offer of £18.3 million, which will be paid upfront and could convince the Brazilian club to part ways with the 18-year-old.
Chelsea are also in talks with Washington agent Giuliano Bertolucci, the Italian agent who has also represented other Brazilian stars such as Gabriel Jesus, Marquinhos, and Bruno Guimaraes.
The Italian agent was also behind Angelo Gabriel’s move to Stamford Bridge and will be hoping to make another transfer happen for Brazilian starlet Washington to Chelsea.
We just keep on signing young players — often names that aren’t well known on the British island — and the fees we are paying for some of them seem premium. More can be known about Washington if and when he comes here.
Who is Deivid Washington?
Washington started his football career at the age of eight when he joined Gremio before moving to Santos after three years. He was quick to establish his status at the Brazilian club, and at the age of 16, he signed his first professional contract, which included a R$100 million (£16 million) release clause.
Since then, he has matured into a prolific goalscorer, and in 2023, he was the first-choice striker for the club, playing for the under-20 team at the Copa So Paulo de Futebol Junior. One can’t help but think a loan move can and should be an option if he comes here in SW6.

If his signing goes through, he will transfer to one of the top European clubs, where he will be recognised for his potential and talent as a goal scorer. However, he might be given a loan for additional conditioning, where he’ll have to get acclimated to performing in European football, and if he’s developed into a capable striker, then he’ll undoubtedly get the chance to play for Chelsea in the future.
