According to a tweet from transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are back in talks with Juventus to discuss a possible swap deal between strikers Romelu Lukaku and Dusan Vlahovic.
After coming back from the loan spell at Inter Milan last time around, Lukaku was strongly linked with a move back to the San Siro. But, Inter dropped their interest in the Belgian after it was revealed that he has entertained interest from Juventus too.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have kept tabs on the possibility of signing Vlahovic to bolster their feeble number nine department. The Serbian international arrived at Juventus from fellow Italian side Fiorentina in January 2022.
A few days ago, it was reported in the Daily Mail that Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli left the team’s pre-season camp to fly to London to discuss a deal to sign Lukaku.
After that, we are hearing the news of a possible deal that might suit all parties. It is fairly evident that Lukaku and Chelsea want to part ways as soon as possible. Juventus can sign him and have their man while the Blues can directly replace him with the arrival of Vlahovic.
The latter played 63 games in all competitions for the Old Lady till the end of last season, scoring 23 goals and assisting six (Transfermarkt). Let’s note that he has not been playing with a vintage Juve side since joining the club 18 months ago.
The 23-year-old’s numbers for Serbia are good with 13 goals from 21 appearances. He is a high-quality striker who can run the channels, can link the play up, is a dangerous presence in the opposition box and has a lethal shot in him.
Chelsea have lacked a number nine who can score 25+ goals per season for some time now. Vlahovic has it in him to do that consistently.
