Axel Disasi shares his ambitions of winning big things for Chelsea after sealing Stamford Bridge arrival
New Chelsea defender Axel Disasi talked about the lofty ambitions he has and his objectives to “achieve big things” at the club.
A few days ago, Chelsea reached an agreement with AS Monaco over a deal worth around £38m to sign the French international. He has signed the contract now and is an official Chelsea player.
Disasi was linked with Arsenal and Manchester United during the summer window as well. It shows how big a coup this is for the Blues that the Frenchman has picked this club despite having the opportunity to play in the Champions League with Arsenal and United in the coming season.
Here are the first words the 25-year-old said after signing the deal to complete his move to Stamford Bridge (h/t Guardian):
“I hope to achieve very big things here. To win titles. I will do everything I can to achieve those objectives. I am very ambitious.
“It’s a club that has been very popular for French players because they have all done well here: [Frank] Leboeuf, [Marcel] Desailly, [Nicolas] Anelka, [N’Golo] Kanté, [Olivier] Giroud. And the colour is blue like the national team! It’s good.”
We are glad to know that Disasi understands the strong connection top French players have with this club. If he achieves similar things to his predecessors at Chelsea, he would have a successful time here.
The 25-year-old is a centre-back who can operate as a right-back if asked to do so. He is a physically strong defender who is good at winning duels and reading the game well defensively. He has a good passing range to complement his game on the ball.
When Wesley Fofana picked up an ACL injury a few days ago, it was clear that Chelsea would look to sign a right-sided defender. They have done exactly that with Disasi’s signature. This could also spell the end for Trevoh Chalobah at the club because the new signing Disasi may compete for a place in central defence alongside Thiago Silva, Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile.
