Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Conor Gallagher as Hojbjerg replacement
Tottenham Hotspur’s new manager Ange Postecoglou is keen to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher who considers him as Pierre-Emile Højbjerg’s replacement. The Denmark international is linked with a move to La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.
As per the Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t Express], Postecoglou sees Gallagher as an ideal successor to Hojbjerg, and Chelsea wants £50 million for England International. However, Mauricio Pochettino wants to keep the midfielder but will allow him to leave for further profit.
Gallagher could be a great alternative for the Danish midfielder, given the 23-year-old will definitely fit into the Australian manager’s intense pressing style from midfield.
Chelsea have already sold plenty of their midfielders, such as Jorginho, Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and N’Golo Kante, and if Gallagher departs, the Blues will have only Enzo Fernandez as a regular midfielder.
However, other midfielders such as Andrey Santos and Cesare Casadei might be sent on loan for further development into an experienced midfield. Therefore, the West Londoners’ top target would need to be to sign a few midfielders. They are now pursuing Moises Caicedo, who is eager to join the Blues.
Last season, we saw how our midfield was frequently monopolised by the opposition, and the team appeared disjointed as we struggled to create anything in the game due to a lack of synergy between the players.
Gallagher is a great player and certainly gives his all for the club, but one thing he seems to lack right now is technical ability. We have seen it in Fernandez in how he uses his attributes, but he cannot do everything by himself, and he will certainly need a player by his side who is as technical as him.
The Englishman is a tireless runner who is a jack of all trades when it comes to being a basic box-to-box midfielder. It would be down to their boss to get the best out of him if he does come to N17.

Under Postecoglou, he could improve more, as he is just 23 and one of the best things about him is his intense pressing style. It wouldn’t be the best idea to lose another homegrown player after seeing Mason Mount depart. Gallagher isn’t extraordinary right now but he is a decent young player, who stays fit and ticks most boxes for a squad player.
