“Brighton knows” – Romano drops update Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo pursuit

Fabrizio Romano claims Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion are working on finding a solution for Moises Caicedo

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion are currently working to find an ideal transfer fee for Moises Caicedo.

Romano has further updated that the 21-year-old has already given his consent to join the West Londoners; it is now up to Chelsea and Brighton to agree on a fee.

Chelsea have made the signing of Caicedo a priority and have seen their initial bid of £60 million rejected by the Seagulls. However, the Blues are continuing their pursuit of the Ecuadorian midfielder and hope to complete it before the conclusion of the summer window.

Following the departure of N’Golo Kante, the West Londoners currently don’t have a proper defensive midfielder, but Caicedo, who possesses similar traits to Kante, can fill the void.

For that, Chelsea and Brighton will have to reach an agreement, and the main obstacle has been the fee, (h/t Football.London) as Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his Here We Go Podcast:

“Direct conversation with Brighton, so more than sending an official bid every day, it’s about discussing and trying to find a way together. Brighton knows that Moises Caicedo wants to go.”

“Brighton has known since February that Moises Caicedo signed a new deal, but he had the green light from Roberto De Zerbi to leave in the summer. Let’s say that they will try to find a solution altogether to make this happen. Of course, Caicedo has already said yes to Chelsea.”

Before we travel to the United States for preseason games, let’s hope Chelsea and the Seagulls can agree on his transfer fee and finalise the midfielder’s acquisition.

Currently, we have only Enzo Fernandez as a regular starter after we sold our top midfielders — Mateo Kovacic, Kante, and Mason Mount. Fernandez will undoubtedly require a midfield partner to back him next season from the middle of the park.

Our defensive midfield region was completely overrun by opponents last season as a result of Kante’s injury and the sale of Jorginho to Arsenal. We were constantly being exploited in that area.

The arrival of Caicedo there will significantly improve our defensive midfield security and also enable Fernandez to move more freely over the field to contribute his creativity. Of course, the financial aspect of a transfer will be important to both teams, which is why it won’t be a surprise if the saga draws on for a little bit longer.
