Journo confirms that Chelsea star is set for medical at rival PL giants

Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea star Mason Mount will complete his Manchester United medical on Monday

According to Fabrizio Romano Chelsea star Mason Mount is set to undergo a medical test on Monday and will later sign a five-year as a Manchester United player.

He also revealed the England international’s contract will be valid until 2028 and he also has the option to extend it until 2029. The Blues managed to sell him before the expiry of his contract, potentially raking in as much as £60million.

The Mason Mount saga finally came to an end after Chelsea’s and Manchester United reached an agreement in principle after the compromises were made for the midfielder. While we loathe losing Cobham graduates, Mount failed to work out any differences with the club.

As per the report, United could end up paying £60m to Chelsea to sign the 24-year-old. Erik ten Hag’s side paid us an initial £55m plus £5m in add-ons to land the midfielder. It represents a decent deal for a player who could have left on a free next summer.

It was a bitter sour selling for the Blues as they were keen on keeping the midfield and making him part of their project for next season. Mount’s relationship with the club broke down when talks over the contract stalled and the midfielder showed no intention towards renewing his contract.

Besides, United, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool also expressed interest in signing the Cobham graduate, but United pushed for the move despite their unwillingness to meet Chelsea’s asking price for Mount.

After a fraught campaign in which he was sidelined by injury last year, Mount will be trying to regain his stride under boss Erik ten Hag. Chelsea, meanwhile, anticipated beginning their new era under Mauricio Pochettino.

Because of his high-pressing style of play, Mount’s acquisition by United is promising since he will provide the squad with greater athleticism and more goals. It will hurt to see him succeed and advance there, though, as he is joining a rival team. Chelsea will hopefully be able to locate a suitable replacement before the start of the upcoming season.
