Talented Ligue 1 starlet keen to make Chelsea switch

Rayan Cherki wants to join Malo Gusto at Chelsea

Rayan Cherki wants to follow his former teammate from Olympique Lyonnais, Malo Gusto, to Chelsea after the Blues expressed interest in signing him in the summer transfer window.

According to Team Talk, (h/t Football.London) Cherki is now looking to follow his teammate Gusto, who joined Chelsea, giving the Blues an upper hand for his acquisition. It is also understood that Chelsea have a good relationship with Lyon, and talks have already taken place over bringing the Frenchman to Stamford Bridge.

Malo Gusto arrived at Chelsea this summer.

Chelsea are keen on signing the French youngster and see him as Mason Mount’s replacement, who recently joined Manchester United. The Blues currently don’t have an attacking midfielder, with Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher the only other senior options in the middle of the park still at the club.

The 19-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season at Lyon, featuring in 34 games and scoring four goals and registering six assists for Laurent Blanc’s side in Ligue 1. Lyon have set a £43 million valuation for the midfielder, indicating just how highly they rate him.

Chelsea are in need of a few midfielders considering they have sold several top stars this summer. With Mauricio Pochettino now set to start, the new era could be dominated by fresh faces. Whether Cherki will be a part of it remains to be seen.

Cherki has been outstanding of late and is enhancing his reputation every time he steps onto the pitch. While he still has much to learn and deficiencies to iron out, the ceiling remains high and he could go on to develop into a world-class superstar. Chelsea will do well to steal a march on his services and sign him right away.

The 19-year-old might be the perfect Mount replacement, but there is always room for development. Over time, we might see him evolve into the club’s premier offensive midfielder. He will undoubtedly be put into a new league with a different level of intensity, so whether we have to wait for him to adapt or not will depend entirely on his approach and ambition.
