Journalist Paul Brown believes Gabri Veiga will be an excellent investment for Chelsea if they manage to sign him from Celta de Vigo. The midfielder has a rather reasonable £34.6m release clause in his current deal.
However, the youngster is not short of suitors, with Liverpool and Barcelona also interested in signing him. If Chelsea ares serious, they will have to make a quick call on his signing before other clubs step in.
The Blues are planning to make a move for the 21-year-old and see him as Mason Mount’s replacement. The English international is set to join Manchester United after the two clubs reached an agreement earlier this week.
Veiga has been identified as the club’s primary target for the summer as they look to get back into the UEFA Champions League. The West Londoners have already offloaded a large number of players and will now look to bring in fresh faces.
The sole regular starter for Chelsea in midfield right now is Enzo Fernandez. In addition to a defensive midfielder, they also need an attacker whon provide thrust unfried from the middle of the park. Paul concurs and believes that if the West Londoners are successful in signing Veiga, they will have made a tremendous investment. He said as much to GiveMeSport:
“He is in the right age bracket, and they are trying to reduce the age of the squad by buying players who they think will at least generate money for them at some point if they don’t come off.”
“As a 21-year-old, I think that it’s a smart play if they were to get him financially. He may not be ready to do big things for the club straightaway in the Premier League, but I can see why that would be a good potential investment for the club.”
Veiga is a highly sought-after player, and if we can get him, it will be a tremendous move for the team. During the 2022–23 La Liga season, he scored once every 211 minutes and will only get better with time. We could have a potentially world-class attacker on our books if he continues to develop as expected.
Liverpool are set to sign Dominik Szoboszlai for £60m while Barcelona’s financial problems can restrict them from signing the Spanish midfielder. Chelsea ahve the advantage here and the onus is on them to take advantage of it.
Under Pochettino, the 21-year-old has an excellent chance to advance and become a top midfielder. The Argentine has a track record of improving youth players and could work his magic with Veiga. Hopefully, Todd Boehly and co are thinking about the same lines and will make their move to land the Spaniard.
