Newcastle United want teenage Chelsea defender this summer

Crystal Palace are set to sign Lewis Hall from Chelsea on a season-long loan.

Newcastle United are interested in signing Chelsea’s left-back Lewis Hall

According to Football.London, Chelsea left-back Lewis Hall has been linked with a move to Premier League club Newcastle United, and Mauricio Pochettino is yet to decide on his future.

The youngster received an opportunity to make his senior debut for Chelsea last season when Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella were out injured for the majority of the games.

Hall did not disappoint and showed what he is capable of as he made nine Premier League appearances, but he might have competition next season in the left-back area.

Considering the Blues currently have Chilwell, Ian Maatsen, and Cucurella, Hall could be loaned out for more development next season. However, given his performance last campaign, the 18-year-old showed he could be a great backup for the Blues.

But that decision lies with Pochettino, who has many options at left-back currently and will have to decide before the start of the upcoming season. Given Chilwell’s injury history and Cucurella’s inconsistent performance last season, the Argentine manager might either have to keep Maatsen or Hall as backup options.

But sending him on loan without an option to buy will be wise, as selling him permanently will be a huge blow for us given that the 18-year-old has shown so much promise. And that too to a direct competitor for a top-four spot in Newcastle United.

He is a versatile player who can play in midfield as well and will develop more under Pochettino if the club decides to keep him. It’s possible that the 51-year-old has plans for him for the upcoming season, but if not, it would be more sensible to loan him out for game time so he can mature quickly.

The pre-season should be a good time for Poch to make his decisions. He shouldn’t hastily sanction such sales before getting to assess the players properly. In our 5-0 friendly win against Wrexham earlier this week, Hall didn’t start but came off the bench to get some much-needed minutes.

Given Chilwell’s status as an England international and the fact that Cucurella and Maatsen both started against Wrexham, Hall could have a mountain to climb ahead of him if he wants decent playing time with the Blues right now.
