Napoli president De Laurentiis confirms they will retain Chelsea target Victor Osimhen this summer
Napoli president De Laurentiis has claimed they are open to offloading Chelsea target Victor Osimhen if a decent offer arrives for the sought-after striker. However, it appears to be a prediction for the 2024 window with the striker expected to stay on in Naples next season.
Chelsea are keen to sign the 24-year-old, who enjoyed an excellent season at Napoli as he helped them lift their first Serie A title for the first time since 1990. A prolific goal-scorer, he would add much bite to the Blues frontline.
The former LOSC Lille striker scored 31 goals in 39 games in all competitions last season, taking his tally to 59 in 101 games since signing for Napoli in 2019. Surely, he has gotten better and will only add more to his tally in the games to come.
The striker has been pursued by a number of top European clubs with Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich looking to get his services in the summer window. Chelsea are still in the market for a striker despite signing Nicolas Jackson, as they look to add a more seasoned number 9 for the upcoming campaign.
Now Napoli president De Laurentiis has given some hope to his suitors for his signing. As he told the media, his words were quoted by Fabrizio Romano:
“We will see Victor Osimhen wearing our shirt next season, that’s for sure. Then, if a more than decent proposal arrives, we will move on and find another top talent, as we did with Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen”.
Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana is on the verge of completing his loan move to Union Berlin. Once we sort out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Romelu Lukaku’s futures, there should be enough space to bring in the Nigerian.
We have also made great sales after selling a number of players so far, which has allowed us to recoup serious fees and also lower the wage bill significantly. Hopefully the attention will soon turn to incomings.
