Mykhaylo Mudryk urges Ukraine teammate to join him at Chelsea

Mykhaylo Mudryk has urged Georgiy Sudakov to join Chelsea

Chelsea attacker Mykhaylo Mudryk claimed it would be great to play with his national team teammate Georgiy Sudakov at Stamford Bridge after the duo helped their U21 Ukraine side reach the semi-final of the U21 European Championship, where they will face Spain U21.

Both displayed great performances, allowing Ukraine U21 to beat France U21 3-1. Rayan Cherki broke the deadlock to give France the lead before Sudakov levelled the score.

Mudryk then provided excellent assists for Sudakov to put Ukraine ahead in the game, and Artem Bondarenko put the game to bed for France as they won 3-1.

Sudakov’s brace has seen him remain in the top spot of the tournament’s top scorer with three goals and is currently plying his trade at Mudryk’s former club, Shakhtar Donetsk.

Now the Chelsea forward will look forward if his compatriot Sudakov will join Chelsea in the summer window, (h/t Metro) as he said after the game:

‘’Usually it’s the opposite—he gives it to me and I score. And now he scored a penalty, and I thought, – I need to score more. I do everything for my friend, and I hope he just keeps scoring. I’m just promoting him.”

When he was questioned whether he would want to see him play for Chelsea next season the 22-year-old said:

‘’That would be great.’’

Georgiy Sudakov will make a good addition to the team, but it will certainly take more than a season to adjust to the league, which is the same situation Mudryk is facing after he joined the club in January. He is young, which seems to be a big factor in Todd Boehly’s recent signings, but we can’t go around just signing anyone.

But the 20-year-old hasn’t done a lot to warrant a move to Chelsea at a time the club requires a proper rebuild with a healthy mix of youngsters and experienced players. We have done the former to a great extent and it is now time to start doing the latter.

Fans would much rather prefer Chelsea focus on signing a proper midfielder with ample experience and quality, rather than another project player. Moreover, there are Andrey Santos and Cesare Casadei in that position to hone.

Meanwhile, Mudryk, who struggled last season, will be expected to contribute significantly next season. He has already demonstrated his potential at the U21 Euros and hopefully brings that form to Stamford Bridge next season.
