Mauricio Pochettino says Chelsea will fulfil their plan of reaching European competition .

Mauricio Pochettino keen for Chelsea to sign new midfielders this summer

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has not shied away from claiming he needs a number of new midfielders, especially in central midfield, ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Chelsea are unquestionably in need of midfielders after selling first-team players such as Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Unless reinforcements are brought in, the alck of depth will come back to bite us dearly.

Now the West Londoners only boast Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher as the first-team midfielders, which means the addition of more midfielders is necessary. Not doing so could prove catastrophic.

Meanwhile, Cesare Casadei and Andrey Santos might be sent on loan for further their development. Chelsea are now closing in on the signing of Moises Caicedo as they are set to submit their third bid to Brighton & Hove Albion. The club is also keen on signing Gabri Veiga and Romeo Lavia but will face competition from other European sides for their acquisition.

Pochettino has confirmed that he needs more signings but refused to name a specific target as he told ESPN that the club needs to reinforce the central midfield area. He said:

Yes, I think we need [a player] there [in midfield], for sure. But I think it is clear. Everyone knows that we need to maybe add some players there.”

Given that the manager has stated that the team should buy central midfielders, the onus is on the recruitment team to deliver. Even if we land Caicedo, it is not enough given the name swe have parted ways with this summer.

With a revap more or less in the works, it is imperative we get our business done sooner rather than later. It will give Pochettino enough time to convey his ideas and tactics to the players, enabling them to settle in easily at Stamford Bridge.
