Marc Cucurella wants to fight for a place at Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino
Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella is hoping to fight for his place in the team next season under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, according to the Evening Standard.
The full-back took part in the first week of pre-season training recently. To that end, the Spain international hoped to catch the eyes of the Argentine manager and make a place for himself in the gaffer’s plans. However, the Stamford Bridge side are willing to part ways with the 24-year-old in the ongoing transfer window. The West London club tried to pawn him off to a Saudi Arabian club.
But Cucurella has no intention of leaving. The defender was also briefly on the radar of Atletico Madrid, who wanted to take him back to Spain. Newcastle United have also been linked with the full-back.
Chelsea signed the 24-year-old last summer from Brighton & Hove Albion. Unfortunately, things have not gone to plan for him at the Stamford Bridge side so far. Cucurella struggled in his debut season at the Blues. The Spaniard was unable to showcase the form that made the Blues spend big money on him. The 24-year-old played in various positions but was unable to make a mark.
Overall, Chelsea were abysmal last season. Pochettino’s arrival will give us a fresh start. However, it remains to be seen whether the left-back will be able to revive his career under the new gaffer. Ben Chilwell is at the Argentine gaffer’s disposal. The England international was one of the few positives for us in the previous campaign. Unfortunately, the former Leicester City star is injury prone.
