Marc Cucurella confirms he will remain at Chelsea next season
Marc Cucurella claimed he wants to stay at Chelsea following a difficult maiden season at the club last campaign, which saw his future grow uncertain at the Blues.
However, the Spanish left-back said he will have to adapt to his new club, given that there might be growing competition in the left-back spot at Chelsea with Ben Chilwell, Lewis Hall, and Ian Maatsen.
Given that Hall previously demonstrated his value while Chilwell and the former Brighton & Hove Albion left-back were injured, he will need to be at the prime of his game to be a frequent starter for the forthcoming campaign.
The 24-year-old has also attracted interest from Premier League clubs, with Newcastle United keen on signing the left-back. Manager Mauricio Pochettino is also apparently open to letting him leave if a good offer arrives.
But the player wants to remain at Chelsea and is willing to adapt to the club as the Blues head into their pre-season tour. Speaking about his future, his words were cited by journalist Fabrizio Romano:
“For sure, I want to stay at Chelsea. No doubts. Sometimes you need time to adapt.”
Cucurella is young (24) and can be a vital component of the upcoming season, even though the Blues have enough resources in the left-back position. Pochettino could provide him with another opportunity to get back to his highest level.
Additionally, we now have Ian Maatsen, whose loan request was rejected by Pochettino. Given Cucurella cost us potentially £63million in transfer fees last summer, expectations have been high.
