Serie A club chief flies to England in hopes of signing 30-year-old Chelsea star

Juventus hope to sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku on loan with their sporting director flying to England

According to Goal Italy (h/t Daily Mail), Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has left their pre-season camp to fly to England to negotiate a loan deal to sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.

It is revealed that Lukaku is still training alone at the Chelsea training base in west London. He is all set to leave the club during this summer transfer window.

The Belgian international, who has played for Inter Milan before and was on loan there, was a subject of interest for the Nerazzurri. But, they dropped their interest in the player as he started speaking with Juventus about a potential deal.

As a result, the Old Lady are favourites to sign the striker who wants to return to Italy this summer. The Serie A giants would offer an initial loan deal with an option to buy at the end of next season.

With Chelsea not wanting to keep him, any solid offer from Juve might be enough to get this deal over the line. There is no point delaying it as well.

In fact, it would be great if the Blues get the 30-year-old off their books and try to fill that spot by signing an experienced striker in the coming days.

It is such a shame that Lukaku’s latest stint at Chelsea turned out this way. When he signed for the club back in the summer of 2021, there were expectations that he would lead the line here for many years to come.

Nothing of that sort materialised and the potential last few days at the club were spent away from the regular first-team squad. While the Blues will never get the £97.5m transfer fee back, they can find solace in that he is going to leave the club soon. It can be marked off as a transfer mistake and hopefully one we can learn from.
