Jose Mourinho gave a coy reply when asked about Paulo Dybala’s future at AS Roma after the player has been linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer window.
It is understood that Chelsea are keen on signing the 2022 World Cup winner, given that Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of the Argentine.
If Chelsea do pursue the former Juventus forward, they will get him for a cheaper price given they will have to trigger the €12 million (£10 million) release clause, which applies to teams outside England. That is a very modest price tag for a superstar like him.
Dybala has been excellent for Roma since they signed him, as he played a key role in helping the club win the UEFA Conference League in the 2021–22 season. They also reached the UEFA Europa League final this season but lost against Sevilla.
It appears the 29-year-old’s future looks uncertain at the moment, and Mourinho is also unsure if the player will remain at the Serie A club this season. When questioned about Dybala’s clause, the former Blues boss gave a coy reply, (h/t Metro) saying:
‘‘I don’t know anything about his contract. But obviously, I talk to Paulo like I do with all of my players.’’
It’s straightforward Even though Mourinho may or may not be aware of a player’s future, he would hardly publicly discuss the player’s status with the team. Dybala is a superb player, and his addition will help us since he has a wealth of knowledge and excelled under Mourinho.
Pochettino would want the Argentine at Chelsea because he could feel that his expertise will benefit young players and further strengthen the team’s attacking line. He is also his compatriot, so that’s bonus points right there in terms of forging an understanding and chemistry.
He is a good goal-scorer as well and can solve our scoring crisis up front. Dybala can play anywhere in attack, in attacking midfield and as a second striker, showcasing how much we can strengthen with just one signing. And for a player who had 18 goals and eight assists in 38 games across competitions last season, €12million seems reasonable.
