Frank Leboeuf says 30-year-old Chelsea star’s “career is a big mess”

Chelsea hoping to offload Romelu Lukaku before start of new season

Former Chelsea centre-back Frank Leboeuf has claimed Blues striker Romelu Lukaku’s career has turned into a big mess following his transfer saga.

After concluding his loan move at Inter Milan, the 30-year-old has been pushing for a permanent move to Inter Milan. But there is a new twist in the saga as the striker could now be looking to secure a move to Juventus.

Inter have withdrawn from the race to sign the striker, meaning Juventus now have a massive advantage in the race. They have already offered £32 million plus £2million for the former Everton striker.

The 30-year-old has had interest from Saudi clubs, but Lukaku wants to continue in Europe. However, despite his transfer saga, Leboeuf feels Lukaku’s career is in shambles, as he claimed in an interview with ESPN:

“Lukaku’s career is a big mess; I am very fond of the guy. He’s a nice person, and as a football player, we all know the weaknesses of his game. What happened last season or the season before? He has to change, be more consistent, and work harder. Now it’s harder for some clubs to bet on him because he doesn’t give any insurance to put money on him. I really wish for him to find a club.”

Leboeuf is correct here; the Belgian striker has now broken the trust of Inter Milan despite pushing for a move to the San Siro when his loan expired. It seems he needs a stable team where he knows he will be staying for more than a season. Juve could be that club especially if they lose exit-linked Dusan Vlahovic.

Frank Leboeuf says Lukaku’s career has turned into a mess.

A manager that trusts him will go a long way in extracting his true potential. Strikers can have off seasons. It should be remembered he fired Inter to a Scudetto win just a couple of seasons back.

World-class delivery from the flanks and midfield into Lukaku’s feet and his head is the best way to bring the best out of the former Manchester United centre-forward. Mauricio Pochettino would have been used to managing Harry Kane, who is a complete centre-forward.

Lukaku isn’t that well-rounded and continues to divide opinions in the fanbase of whichever club he represents, which is why his future could certainly lie away from SW6.
