Callum Hudson-Odoi wants to leave Chelsea this summer

As per the Athletic (subscription required), Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has decided that he wants to leave the club in the summer transfer window.

Hudson-Odoi spent the last season on loan at Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen. It was an unsuccessful one where the winger made only 21 appearances in all competitions, scoring and assisting a goal each (Transfermarkt).

The England international reported for pre-season training under Mauricio Pochettino but is not expected to stay here for very long in the summer.

The report reveals that the Blues were already looking for potential suitors to sell the 22-year-old. He only has one year of contract left at Stamford Bridge anyway (Transfermarkt).

The club have made it a habit to sell players who entered the final 12 months of their contracts. Mateo Kovacic to Manchester City and Mason Mount to Manchester United are such examples.

Moreover, it makes no sense to keep hold of Hudson-Odoi, who is most likely not to get much game time next season in a Chelsea shirt. Pochettino has Mykhaylo Mudryk, Raheem Sterling and others to pick from to provide width to the forward line.

The hope is that a buyer is looking to make an offer for the 22-year-old. The key for Chelsea would be not to negotiate much and make sure the deal is done.

Let’s also wish the club’s academy product to do well wherever he goes this summer, have a good career and make the Chelsea academy proud of producing another fantastic player.

We have seen recent examples of the Blues’ academy players not cutting it here but doing well in a different club. Fikayo Tomori at AC Milan is a prime example of that. Tammy Abraham at AS Roma is another illustration although the striker did well for Chelsea too.
