Chelsea are interested in making a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi
As per the Guardian, Chelsea are weighing up a possible move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi during this summer transfer window.
The Blues have lost Wesley Fofana to a serious knee injury that is certain to keep him out of action for a fair chunk of the season to come. The Frenchman has had a woeful run of luck with injuries since signing for the club last summer.
Guehi, who was a Chelsea Academy product before joining Palace in 2021, has been one of the better defenders in the league for the last 12-18 months.
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the 23-year-old but haven’t made any move yet. Chelsea have the right to match any of the bids for the player.
If the Blues make their interest strong, Palace would like to make a profit having signed him for £18m two years ago. It remains to be seen whether Mauricio Pochettino wants a new centre-back after the horrendous injury to Fofana or is he happy with the options available.
If the club does not sign Guehi, the manager will have Trevoh Chalobah, Thiago Silva, Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile to choose from. Chalobah, who was a subject of interest from Inter Milan, might not be sold given the current situation.
On the other side of the coin, if Chelsea are keen on getting Guehi, he would be a fantastic young addition to the squad. The Englishman can come here, do well and potentially push to get a spot in the England squad for the Euros next summer.
He can find gametime especially hard to come by at Arsenal, who have signed Jurrien Timber this summer to add to an array of centre-back options already at their disposal. Spurs, nevertheless, should be taken seriously by Chelsea because they can slot him alongside Cristian Romero as a potential upgrade on Eric Dier.

All of this might depend on what Pochettino wants. The Blues are short in midfield at the moment too. Should the focus be to sign midfielders first before thinking about the defence? Probably so knowing that there are options at the back that can be trusted.
