Chelsea waiting on injury news about Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise before making a move

As per Fabrizio Romano in the Here We Go Podcast (h/t Football London), Chelsea are waiting to know the injury situation of Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise before making a move for him this summer.

Olise picked up a hamstring tear injury while playing for the France U21 in the U21 Euros last month. Palace boss Roy Hodgson expects the player to at least miss the early parts of the upcoming season.

A few days ago, it was revealed in Express that Olise has agreed a move in principle with Chelsea. But, what Romano is alluding to is that the Blues are yet to make an official offer to Palace to get this deal done. Manchester City are interested in the winger.

Olise is a terrific young talent who started as a youth player in Reading before making a senior debut for them during the second half of the 2017/18 season. The Frenchman moved to Palace in the summer of 2021.

In the two seasons for the Eagles so far, the 21-year-old has scored six goals and assisted 19 in 71 appearances in all competitions. Those are decent returns for a forward who doesn’t play in a free-flowing attack-minded team.

The Frenchman is excellent on the ball, can beat people on the dribble, can deliver a wicked cross or set-piece from wide areas and can score goals by cutting on his left foot from the right-hand side.

He can take direct free-kicks too and make a good fist of the chance on most occasions. We still remember his stupendous free-kick goal against Manchester United last season to steal a point for Palace late in the second half.

In short, Olise has the talent and now the experience to be a decent addition to the Chelsea squad. Let’s hope he recovers well from his injury before a move can be made.
