As per Evening Standard, Chelsea FC have released their home jersey for next season without a main sponsor following an avalanche of criticism from the fans.
The West Londoners had discussions with the betting company Stake but ended those discussions after receiving criticism from their supporters. This happened after the Premier League rejected a substantial offer from the American service Paramount+ out of concern that it would annoy the owners of the TV rights.
The Blues have released the jersey for the upcoming season, which is ’90s-inspired and contains gold and white trim. Fans can pre-order the jersey, but they won’t be able to get their hands on it until the new season begins. However, negotiations with current sponsors are still underway.
The West Londoners will continue their search for sponsors after the previous sponsor, mobile company Three, whose £40 million-a-year deal ended after the last campaign, expired.
The Blues will be hoping to find a more lucrative sponsor given that the club has recorded losses due to failing to qualify for the Champions League and the signing of a plethora of players in previous transfer windows.
They will hope to find a new sponsor before the start of the new season, as they will open their 2023–24 campaign against a tough Liverpool side on August 13.
A lucrative offer from the sponsor would be great given we have to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations and balance the wages after the losses we have recorded in the past two seasons.
The newly released shirt looks attractive and we now need a sponsor that not only provides us with a good pay package but also aesthetically fits on the kit. Some sponsors stick in the minds forever and become emblematic of a club’s great era.
It would be odd if we start the season without anything in the front but it will give the jersey a cool, retro vibe. That is, obviously, in no way worth not having a sponsor. Finishing 12th last season isn’t good for the brand but Chelsea remain a global brand — one of the most famous in the world. And we should be able to attract top-level sponsors.
