Chelsea are pushing to sell striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to clubs in Saudi Arabia
As per a tweet from transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are insistent on selling out-of-favour striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to one of the clubs in Saudi Arabia this summer.
It is also revealed that although the talks are ongoing, none of them are in the final stages. European clubs are backing off from signing him because the wage is a big hurdle. Money is definitely not an issue for clubs in Saudi. Edouard Mendy, N’Golo Kante and Kalidou Koulibaly have already made the move the Middle East this summer.
Matt Law of the Telegraph tweeted that the Blues have told Aubameyang to not join the squad because they are confident of selling him before next Monday. Let’s see if that happens in the coming days.
The 34-year-old had an underwhelming season at Chelsea after arriving from Barcelona last summer. The former Arsenal marksman lacked the spark to his game and wasn’t fancied by either Graham Potter or Frank Lampard. It showed that he was a Thomas Tuchel signing. But, the German was sacked very early last season.
Aubameyang is at an age now where it makes no sense to give him another year and see whether he can regain his top form in a Chelsea shirt. One goal in 15 Premier League games last season reflects horribly on the former Arsenal man. So, it is right to sell him as soon as possible.
The big hurdle for the Blues would be to sign another striker in the summer. Romelu Lukaku is all set to leave the club amidst strong interest from Inter Milan. Kai Havertz, who used to play as a false nine, is also gone.
They signed young Senegal forward Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal a few days ago. But, expecting him to bear the responsibility of scoring a lot of goals would be foolish, to say the least.
