Chelsea won’t pay over €60m limit to sign 23-year-old Serie A superstar

Chelsea have set a price limit if they are to sign Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic

As per Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Football London), Chelsea have made it clear that they won’t pay more than €60m if they are to sign Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic in this summer window.

The report reveals that the Serbian international, who is one of the transfer targets for the Blues, will be available at a hefty price. His current contract with the Old Lady runs until the summer of 2026 (Transfermarkt).

A few days ago, Chelsea announced the signing of Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal. They paid just over the release clause to sign the young centre-forward.

It’s been a few years now since the Blues had a proper number nine who could score 20+ goals per season consistently. They have spent a lot to revive that following the departure of Diego Costa, but nothing has worked thus far.

After Kai Havertz’s move to Arsenal and the lack of surety around Romelu Lukaku’s future at the club, Mauricio Pochettino only has Jackson and Armando Broja as options to play up front. New signing Christopher Nkunku can play there but he is better off operating as a number 10 or a support striker.

While Vlahovic hasn’t set the place alright in Turin, he has had a decent return of goals there. In 63 appearances in all competitions for the Italian giants, the former Fiorentina marksman scored 23 goals and assisted six (Transfermarkt). Take into account that he is not playing in a vintage Juventus side. This one lacks quality in providing adequate service to the frontmen.

The 23-year-old is a talented striker with plenty of experience in club and international football. In the current market where marquee midfielders are even going £105m (Declan Rice), setting a price threshold to sign a striker does not make sense.

Let’s hope Chelsea are a bit more flexible in this to make sure they are doing their best to sign Vlahovic this summer. At the end of the day, all the Serbian needs is the right system and manager to bring the best out of him.
