Chelsea handed Vitor Roque hope as Barcelona flounder with paperwork
Barcelona are closing in on the signing of Vitor Roque this summer despite offering him a lower salary than the likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United this summer transfer window.
However, as per Mundo Deportivo, (h/t Express), Barcelona could end up missing out on the youngster to other European clubs if they fail to send important documents to his parent club to finalise the transfer within 24 hours. Now on the clock, only the Catalans can mess it up.
Despite problems with documents, the Brazilian sensation has personally agreed personal terms to join the Catalan giants. The 18-year-old waited a long time to join the club due to his love for Barcelona, despite attempted hijacks from other European clubs this season.
Barcelona have been working on his signing for months but are yet to finish it. It is understood that a £30 million fee has been agreed between the Blaugrana and Athletico Paranaense. However, there are still some necessary documents left to complete the signing, and if Barcelona fails to send them, Paranaense could consider other offers from European clubs.
Chelsea have shown greater interest in signing youngsters as they rebuild under Mauricio Pochettino. Roque is among the top talents, helping the Brazilian U20 side win the American Championship. Surely the youngster is expected to make it big.
We already have many young players who play in the same position as Roque, like Nicolas Jackson, David Datro-Fofana, and Armando Borja. It won’t be an issue if we don’t sign him position wise but as a player, the Brazilian could prove to be special.
Since it takes time for young players to develop into great strikers, having too many of them is also not a smart idea. If Chelsea wants to add another striker, it would be more prudent to choose an experienced player this time since there are already a lot of young players available who are eager to establish their reputations.

Signing Roque would be a welcome development. However, with the move to Barcelona all but done, it will take a mess up on the Catalans’ end to scupper the transfer. We will have to be overly optimistic to expect them to mess this up.
