Pochettino ‘excited’ to restore lost glory at ‘greatest team in Engand’ Chelsea

Chelsea have been informed about the availability of Martin Braithwaite.

Mauricio Pochettino targets bringing Chelsea back on the road of victory

In his first interview as a Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino talked about many things, including the promise to bring the team back on the road to victory in the coming years.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Paris-Saint Germain boss officially started his work as a Chelsea boss today (Monday). He has a lot on his plate to sort out before the team is ready to compete from the start of the next season.

Players are leaving left, right and centre and the club haven’t made any significant signing to bolster the first-team squad yet (with all due respect to Nicolas Jackson).

Talking to the official Chelsea media team, Pochettino labelled the club as the greatest of the last 10-15 years and shared his excitement to work for this organisation. Here are some of the words from the Argentine (h/t Chelsea website):

“I think it’s important and it’s a culture of winning. In the last 10, 12, 15 years, Chelsea is the greatest team in England. I know very well the Premier League and what the culture of Chelsea means. I think our fans are excited to again be on the road of trying to win.

“Of course, we are excited. We are excited to work with a very young team, with a different approach than in the past. But I think we all need to understand that we have to work really hard and create a very good atmosphere at the training ground to build success for the team in the next few years.”

When touching on working with a very young team, Pochettino has rightfully accepted that although the squad is talented, there is a lot of inexperience in it.

For right or wrong, Chelsea have signed loads of top young players on long-term contracts since last summer. Whether that strategy would pay off in the short term, we will wait and see about that.

But, if there is one manager who is comfortable working with young players and gelling them together into a formidable team, it is Pochettino. He did a similar job at Tottenham and got them on the brink of great things. In fact, they did achieve good things as per Spurs’ standards.

The Argentine’s time at PSG was a bit of an underwhelming one, however, not many managers would have survived the toxic nature of that club from top to bottom.

The hope is that the environment at Chelsea is good for him to work on a long-term project and bring success back to Stamford Bridge soon.
