Chelsea boss gives coy response when asked about Tottenham’s Harry Kane

Chelsea have expressed interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane

Mauricio Pochettino has opened up about his relationship with Chelsea target Harry Kane, as both of them worked together at Tottenham Hotspur, where they enjoyed a great spell together.

However, the England International has been rumoured to be leaving Spurs in the summer window, with a host of clubs interested in signing him, including Chelsea.

Among them, Bayern Munich approached Kane with a bid, but it was instantly rejected by Spurs, and they are set to return with another offer for the England skipper.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are unlikely to sell the 29-year-old to Premier League sides, but they could sign him for free in 2024 when his contract will expire at Spurs, assuming he doesn’t pen fresh terms between that time.

He has been linked with a move to Chelsea but Pochettino gave a coy reply when asked about Kane (h/t Metro):

‘’I don’t like to talk about players in another club, but you are talking about one of the greatest, one of the best strikers in the world. It’s not fair to talk; it’s not fair to say nothing. People are not stupid; fans are not stupid; they are so clever, and they know my relationship with him was always amazing.”

Of course, Pochettino won’t bring up any contentious issues in this discussion because he also managed Spurs and is aware of the appropriate language to use when discussing his former team and the players he has worked with. However, he may have the desire to work with Kane once more after helping the 29-year-old develop into one of Europe’s top scorers.

With him on the front line, Chelsea will make a statement signing if they can get his services. Given that he scored 30 goals in the Premier League with Spurs during the 2022-23 campaign who also had a poor season, it is easy to fathom what he can accomplish under his former manager.

It’s not like Spurs will offer the 29-year-old Champions League football next season, so he won’t be making a compromise in that regard. Our project arguably looks more solid, and with owners who seem to have deep pockets, this club is headed for great things under the right head coach, which Poch can be. Hopefully, Kane sees it that way too.
