Chelsea considering an offer for €30m-rated French forward

Chelsea are expected to make offer for Montpellier forward Elye Wahi

According to French outlet L’Equipe, Chelsea are expected to submit an initial offer for Montpellier Hérault SC forward Elye Wahi. The 20-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season, which saw him score 19 goals and provide six assists in 33 league games for the Ligue 1 club.

His surging form last season has seen clubs across Europe looking to land the U21 French international, including West Londoners, who are expected to make an offer for the youngster.

The 20-year-old was previously linked with a move to Arsenal, but the Gunners have now softened their interest in signing the striker after acquiring Kai Havertz.

However, the 20-year-old leaving Montpellier remains on the cards despite his contract being set to expire in 2025, and the French club value him at around €30 million. That isn’t an awful fee for a young striker who is showing promise.

Despite signing Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal, the Blues could still be searching for a quality striker who can address their goal-scoring issue which has been looming around for the past few seasons.

Wahi is young and may not immediately solve Chelsea’s goalscoring problems, as he will need time to adjust to the league to become a quality forward.

Instead, Chelsea should choose an adept striker who has the ability to swiftly tackle the team’s goal-scoring issues. We have a sufficient number of young players currently; therefore, it would be a good idea for the club to add more proven players right away who can also assist the young players in developing into the club’s future.

Wahi is 20 years old and undoubtedly possesses tremendous abilities. Of course, we also have a manager who can help him develop into a merciless striker. But it doesn’t make sense for us to just carelessly sign young players. The team should make a better choice and recruit a striker who is capable of scoring 20 goals or more per season.

No one can guarantee that. But we can do our best to sign someone who comes the closest to guaranteeing that on paper.
