Chelsea are considering a move for AC Milan goalie Mike Maignan
Chelsea are considering a move for Mike Maignan, according to journalist Matt Law. The talented goalkeeper, currently plying his trade at AC Milan, has caught the attention of the Blues as they continue to explore options to strengthen their squad.
Speaking on the popular ‘London is Blue’ podcast, Law revealed that discussions surrounding the acquisition of Maignan have not dissipated within the corridors of Stamford Bridge. Despite the recent departure of Edouard Mendy to Saudi Arabia, Chelsea are actively seeking a replacement between the sticks.
Maignan’s name has been linked with the Blues as one of the potential candidates to claim the coveted number-one spot. With the Senegalese international largely playing second fiddle to Mendy last season, new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino seems keen on upgrading Kepa Arrizabalaga’s talents.
However, the Argentinian is not against using Kepa as his first choice. Pochettino, who recently took the helm at Stamford Bridge, is said to be excited about the prospect of working with the Spanish shot-stopper and believes he can bring out the best in him.
However, Law’s insights suggest that the idea of bringing in a new goalkeeper has not been discarded by Chelsea. The discussions revolving around Maignan indicate a genuine interest in the AC Milan custodian.
While the likes of Andre Onana have garnered more attention as potential targets, there is no denying Maignan’s qualities and the impact he could make if he were to don the Chelsea jersey. The Frenchman is one of the best goalies in the world going around.
Of course, acquiring Maignan’s services would not come without a significant financial commitment. It has been suggested that Chelsea might need to part ways with approximately £73m to secure the Frenchman’s signature.
The addition of Maignan to Chelsea’s roster would undoubtedly bolster their goalkeeping options. Known for his exceptional shot-stopping abilities and commanding presence in the penalty area, he has proven himself to be a force to be reckoned with.
