Chelsea see another bid for Moises Caicedo rejected by Brighton and Hove Albion
According to the Athletic (subscription required), Brighton and Hove Albion have rejected the latest offer worth £80m by Chelsea for midfielder Moises Caicedo.
A few days ago, the Seagulls rejected a £70m bid by the Blues for the Ecuador international. The improved bid is now rejected immediately as it came.
It is revealed that Brighton won’t sell the player unless an offer of upwards of £100m is made. Chelsea are still 20% short of that. Knowing that the south coast club are one of the stubborn bunch in the transfer market, we should not expect them to back down from the asking price. The Declan Rice transfer has set the precedence for this summer it seems.
Chelsea are considering alternatives now and according to CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs, they are preparing a transfer hijack to sign Liverpool target Romeo Lavia. It remains to be seen whether that is even possible because Lavia has his heart set on a move to Anfield.
If the Blues cannot reach the asking price for Caicedo and miss out on Lavia, they will have nowhere to go in the market for a proven midfield addition.
The market is competitive as anything, not helped by the fact that Saudi Pro League clubs are actively buying players away from English and European clubs.
This is the time when the Chelsea board and recruitment department earn their bucks. A solution needs to be found to get Caicedo for starters. He has been the main target. What’s more, the player is ever ready to make a move to Stamford Bridge if the fee is agreed.

The question is – do Chelsea want to spend £100m+ on another midfielder having done that to get Enzo Fernandez in January? Is it worth to have a midfield pairing worth more than £200m? In this day and age, anything is possible though!
