A View From The Bridge

Agent brands Chelsea defender’s exit links as ‘fake news’

Agent of Chelsea star Marc Cucurella denies Stamford Bridge exit rumours

According to The Daily Mail, the agent of Chelsea star Marc Cucurella has opened up on the rumours regarding his client’s potential exit from Stamford Bridge this summer.

The Spaniard arrived in west London from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer and much was expected of him. The £62 million price tag did him no favours either, increasing expectations and shining the spotlight on the player’s performances.

Cucurella made 33 appearances for the club across all competitions, making just two assists across all competitions. Largely behind Ben Chilwell in the pecking order, the Spaniard has struggled to establish himself as a first-XI regular.

Of late, La Liga giants Atletico Madrid have been touted to make a move for the 24-year-old. A former Barcelona star who also impressed for Getafe, Cucurella is well acquainted with the Spanish top flight. He appeared to fit in back in his home nation and a return to Spain would have certainly made life easier.

Any chances of Cucurella being part of the summer exodus appears unlikely with his representative Alvaro Dominguez openly calling the news as fake. It would suggest that the 24-year-old is set to stay on as Mauricio Pochettino plots his rebuild.

Dominguez tagged the outlet, Marca on Instagram and branded their story ‘fake news’ Instagram. He also wrote ‘try again’ next to an emoji, more or less killing the story in its infancy. Cucurella has all the traits needed to succeed and it could be just a matter of time before he rediscovers his form in Blue.

Pochettino has the ability to get the best out of his players and Cucurella will benefit from it. Should he continue to flounder, an exit could very well be on the cards in the future because there won’t be a point keeping underwhelming players on our books for long.

Pochettino is likely to take a close look at the players at his disposal, perhaps deciding what role they will play in his rebuild. Cucurella will hope to redeem himself and perhaps enjoy better fortunes in the time to come.
