Soccer Aid host Alex Scott pokes fun at Chelsea’s hiring of Mauricio Pochettino

Soccer Aid presenter Alex Scott makes fun of Chelsea for hiring Mauricio Pochettino

Soccer Aid presenter Alex Scott did not miss a chance to take a dig at Chelsea’s appointment of Mauricio Pochettino, as she claimed the Argentine manager remains longer than other coaches at Stamford Bridge.

The former Paris Saint-Germain manager was present in the World XI in the Soccer Aid match. Chelsea’s owner Todd Boehly sacked Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter and has now hired Pochettino as the third permanent manager.

The former Tottenham Hotspur gaffer has signed a two-year deal and will have ample work to do before the start of the new season. Before that, he will take charge of the club’s pre-season tour of the USA.

The Blues finished the 2022–23 season in the bottom half of the table and also struggled to score goals, which made the signing of a striker a key target.

Besides a striker, Pochettino has told the club to sign a top midfielder and a goalkeeper as well. Scott, (h/t Mirror) who is an Arsenal legend, did not miss the chance to remind Chelsea’s fans of the current instability at the club and also took a swipe at Pochettino, saying:

“World XI have gone and got themselves a new manager this year. Yes, new Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino. Even though, Dermot (O’Leary, co-host), I think he might last longer in this job than the other one, I’m just saying.”

We also hope the same given what transpired with the last two managers throughout the previous season. Hopefully, Chelsea’s board made the right decision when they hired the Argentine manager.

Given his experience managing at Southampton, Espanyol, and Tottenham, the 51-year-old is a savvy manager. He also has Premier League experience and frequently challenged top English-flight managers with his decent Tottenham squad.

But it requires patience. We need to give him time for his medicine to work. Moreover, sizing down a bloated squad and replenishing the first XI with players of Poch’s liking isn’t a one-window process. Boehly and co. must learn from the mistakes they make. One they mustn’t under any circumstances whatsoever is be impatient with Poch.
