Chelsea News: Ruben Loftus-Cheek deal uncertain after AC Milan sack Paolo Maldini
Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s move from Chelsea to AC Milan is now uncertain after AC Milan sacked Paolo Maldini as their technical director.
This is according to 90min, via Football.London, who claim that it is unclear if Milan’s new backroom staff will pursue a deal for the English midfielder after the removal of directors Maldini and Frederic Massara.
Last month, the Guardian claimed AC Milan were in talks to get Loftus-Cheek in ahead of the new season. They would want to strengthen their midfield after a season where they finished in the top four and made the UEFA Champions League semifinals.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek, meanwhile, continues to struggle for playing time at Chelsea. The 27-year-old had 22 starts across competitions this term, which was a season to forget for the Blues.
What next for RLC?
But he wouldn’t have had that many minutes had it not been for the crisis in the right-back area, especially with the injuries to Reece James. It doesn’t seem like he’s in the club’s plans for the future.
In all honesty, that has been the case for several seasons under different managers. He has been here all his life, since the day he started playing football at the youth level. An exit after 19 years this summer would be emotional.
But it wouldn’t be one which would threaten the team’s quality. His versatility is always a bonus. He has all the qualities to be a smart central midfielder for a Premier League side, or, in this case, seven-time UEFA Champions League winners AC Milan.

Hopefully, the new officials for I Rossoneri still view this as a viable deal. It would mean a chance for him to rekindle his career and for us, to make money on a player whose contract expires next year (Transfermarkt),
