A View From The Bridge

“Chelsea are leading the race”- Romano drops exciting update on 21-year-old Arsenal target

Fabrizio Romano updates Chelsea are leading the race to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo

As per Fabrizio Romano, a quote extracted by Football.London, Chelsea are convinced that Moises Caicedo is right for them and are leading the race to sign the Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder.

The other revelation is that the Ecuador international will be available for a fee between £70m and £80m. There is a pact between the player and Seagulls manager Roberto De Zerbi to let the former leave this summer. That was one of the promises when he signed a new deal after the January transfer window.

Although Romano reveals that Chelsea are leading the race, a few days ago Daily Mail updated that Arsenal had agreed on personal terms with the midfielder after failing to sign him in January.

Here’s what the transfer journalist said about Caicedo moving to Stamford Bridge (h/t Football.London):

“Chelsea are convinced that Caicedo is the perfect player for them. From sources I spoke to, the idea is that Caicedo is going to be worth £70m or £80m. No more than this.

“There is also a pact between Caicedo and Roberto De Zerbi. He will be allowed to leave the club this summer if there is an important proposal. Caicedo is really convinced that he will leave, Caicedo wants a new opportunity. Chelsea are leading the race in this moment for Caicedo.”

Chelsea made an 11th-hour attempt to sign Alexis Mac Allister, but the Argentine gave his word to work under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. They have already pulled out of the race to sign Manuel Ugarte as Paris-Saint Germain come calling.

We all know that N’Golo Kante is moving to Saudi Arabia club Al Ittihad. To replace the Frenchman and also to bolster the weakening midfield department, Chelsea need to sign a top player.

Caicedo is just that. The 21-year-old is of a similar mould to Kante in the sense that he is excellent on the ball and works his socks off to recover the ball for the team as and when required. Recently, the Ecuadorian started playing at right-back and did a more than decent job there.

More Chelsea News:

So, whatever happens in the next few days, Chelsea must make sure they sign the young star before the likes of Arsenal dip in further with their interest and agreement. They can offer him UEFA Champions League football instantly and should be taken seriously by the Blues.
