N’Golo Kante signs documents ‘today’ to confirm Chelsea exit for Al-Ittihad
269 matches, seven trophies and countless memories during his seven-year spell… it truly is the end of an era at Chelsea as N’Golo Kante seems set to join Al-Ittihad.
The 32-year-old’s future in SW6 has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks and it has seemed likely for a while now that he will go to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the documents are being signed today (June 13) for the move to be made official. He is on the back of a horrific individual season where injuries restricted him to just nine appearances across competitions.
Moreover, during that time, the club has gone through immense change. With the arrival of Todd Boehly as our new owner, we seem to be more focused (maybe too much) on signing young players.
Kante out of Chelsea
Carney Chukwuemeka, Cesare Casadei and Enzo Fernandez have been signed during their tenure while Conor Gallagher has been made into a regular first-team player.
Jorginho in January and Kante in the summer… we seem to be ridding ourselves of players in their 30s. Kante, 32, still has a lot to offer if he keeps himself fit. Al-Ittihad know that, which is why they have offered him €100million in wages.
Playing in an arguably less intense league in Saudi Arabia could help him, but the competition there is growing fast. Al-Ittihad have already signed Karim Benzema and now Kante seems to be their next big arrival.

He could be one of the trailblazers to up the league’s quality significantly in the coming years. We wish him all the best. His contract expires at the end of the month so we won’t stand to benefit from his sale – just the space he frees up on the wage bill.
