Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic has been linked with move to Manchester City
Mateo Kovacic has spoken openly about his future and rumours of a transfer to Manchester City and also admitted Chelsea experienced an unsuccessful season.
Manchester City are interested in signing the Croatian midfielder, and as per the report, the Blues gave their approval for the transfer.
Bayern Munich are also credited with an interest in signing the 29-year-old where Kovacic could be reunited with former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel. Our failure to make the top four this season only worsens our case of keeping him here.
Since N’Golo Kante joined Al-Ittihad, the former Real Madrid midfielder could also call his time at Stamford Bridge. Kovacic has had a poor season by his standards but in his defence, his teammates didn’t help him out too much.
The West Londoners are seeking to bolster their midfield with additional players who would benefit Enzo Fernandez in the centre of the park.
During international duty with Croatia, (h/t Evening Standard), he addressed his rumours to the city and told Nacional:
“Everything is going towards the fact that after five good years I will change, but in football anything can happen. Right now, I’m focused on Croatia and the Nations League. Manchester City is a top team and deserves to be in the Champions League final. That’s what I have to say. The summer is long; we’ll see what happens.”
“Chelsea is phenomenal for me. I love the city and the fans; they love me. I have wonderful memories of Chelsea. We’ll see what happens.”
If he departs, the Kante – Jorginho – Kovacic period will come to an end. However, City have not yet made a bid for the 29-year-old, so it is still unclear whether his transfer to the Etihad is certain. A move there would, of course, appeal to him given their success in recent seasons under Pep Guardiola.

His exit from Chelsea can help us rake in a good sum; therefore, if they pay enough money for him, it will be beneficial as we will be able to add some more cash to sign a good replacement. Hopefully, we have some experienced names lined up to take the place of Kante and/or Kovacic. Enough youngsters for now.
