According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United will submit an improved bid for Mason Mount after the opening offer was rejected by Chelsea.
United are expected to offer £50 million for England International; their last bid was £40 million for the 24-year-old, but it was immediately rebuffed by the Blues.
Mount’s United speculation has continued since the player opted not to extend his contract, which will expire in 2024. The midfielder is also open to joining United if Chelsea accepts their bid.
Liverpool were also interested in signing the Cobham graduate but pulled out of the race, as United remain the only team in the race now. However, if Chelsea fail to sell Mount, he could leave for free in 2024, considering he has shown no interest in renewing his contract.
It will end an era for the midfielder who made his name at Chelsea after being promoted to the senior team under Frank Lampard. This season, the playmaker has appeared in only 24 Premier League games.
Mount experienced a dry season as he missed 12 Premier League games due to an ankle injury and an abdominal problem, which saw him undergo surgery in April to correct the abdominal problem.
We must not lose Mount for free in 2024, so Chelsea will need to be very careful with his condition right now. If our intention was to make Manchester United return with an improved offer after rejecting their opening bid, then we have apparently been successful.
We have to be very prudent, so it will be better for the club to accept what United are offering if it comes near Chelesa’s valuation of Mount. Of course, selling teams wouldn’t put a realistic price tag on their asset.
The true valuation often lies somewhere in the middle of what the two teams value a player at. If it is becoming that Mount won’t extend his Chelsea contract no matter what, then perhaps a second Man United bid could be our last chance to get some money for the Englishman.
