PSG Kylian Mbappe responds to his exit rumours despite Chelsea links
Kylian Mbappe has hit back at those rumours that claimed the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner will leave Paris Saint-Germain this season despite Chelsea links.
The 24-year-old signed a new deal last season that also had the option to extend beyond 2024. However, the Frenchman’s decision to not renew his contract has seen the players linked with a move to many European clubs, with Real Madrid being the favourite to sign him.
Chelsea were among the clubs linked with a move for Mbappe, but that has since been denied as the Blues are prioritising other signings.
The former AS Monaco forward has since opened up about his future at PSG and claimed, (h/t Football.London) when speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport:
“I didn’t ask to leave PSG or to join Real Madrid. I just told the club that I wouldn’t activate the option to extend the contract until June 2025. We never discussed a new deal with PSG, but I’m happy to stay here next season.”
“At the highest levels, for a competitor like me, the goal is to win all the titles. We knew there were shortcomings that sooner or later we would end up paying for.”
Mbappe would want to win the Champions League, which is challenging to achieve at PSG, who have always been sub-par in that competition. Certainly, Real Madrid can provide that knowing their ability to win the trophy and their ‘heritage’ in the competition.
Although joining Chelsea is extremely doubtful (but not impossible), a player of Mbappe’s calibre, who won’t need much time to acclimatise to the Premier League, is always welcome. He would take our team back to the top instantaneously…. he’s that good.

But it won’t be cheap at all. We had the cash to spend on signings in January and last summer but Mbappe would be at a whole new level. He is one of the world’s very best players and would want a salary that reflects it. It remains to be seen if we are in a condition to provide that without harming our FFP score.
