Inter Milan set to pip Chelsea to French attacker Marcus Thuram
Serie A giants Inter Milan are set to pip Chelsea to the signature of free agent Marcus Thuram in the ongoing transfer window, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.com. They say that he ‘will’ sign for Inter.
The France international opted against extending his stay at Borussia Monchengladbach and ran down his contract. Subsequently, the likes of La Liga giants Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, as well as the Blues, RB Leipzig and Paris Saint-Germain, have had the forward on their radar.
However, it is the Nerazzuri who are on the verge of acquiring the 25-year-old’s services this summer. The striker has turned down the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza side’s bitter rivals AC Milan to sign for them.
Thuram played in France for a number of years before making his way to Die Fohlen. At the Bundesliga outfit, the forward was a key player.
However, in the 2022/23 campaign, the 25-year-old took his game to the next level. The 2022 World Cup finalist was exclusively played as a centre-forward by Daniel Farke as he scored 16 goals in 32 appearances in all competitions.
Inter made it to the Champions League final last season. The Nerazzurri have Lautaro Martinez up front. However, Romelu Lukaku was only on loan at the Italian outfit in the previous campaign. Edin Dzeko has also left the Serie A giants and signed for Fenerbahce this summer.
As for Chelsea, finding the back of the net has been a struggle for us for some time now. Lukaku was signed by the Stamford Bridge side in the summer of 2021. However, the Blues shipped him back to Inter after an underwhelming season.
In the previous campaign, we relied on Kai Havertz to lead the line. However, the German looks set to join Arsenal in the ongoing transfer window. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been a disappointing addition to the squad as well.

Thuram has not been prolific over the years. However, it is not like Chelsea have an abundance of talent up front. It remains to be seen who we will turn our attention to now to bolster the striking department.
