Chelsea youngster David Datro Fofana seeking a bigger role in the first team
Chelsea winter signing David Datro Fofana wants to be further involved in the first team under Mauricio Pochettino as the Blues prepare for the Argentine’s arrival in west London..
As per 90 minutes, (h/t Express) the former Molde attacker wants greater involvement with Chelsea’s first team as the club prepares for the new season.
Fofana, who enjoyed a prolific spell at Model, accumulated 24 goals and 10 assists in 65 appearances for the Norwegian club. However, his spell at Chelsea so far has left much to be desired.
The youngster was signed in January for £10 million and inked a six-and-a-half-year contract at West London. While it would be far-fetched to call him the finished product, Fofana certainly has great potential.
However, since his arrival, the 20-year-old has barely appeared in any Chelsea games. The striker made his debut against Fulham before receiving his first start against Southampton.
Fofana wants more involvement at Chelsea, although it would be challenging given that the Blues are on the verge of signing Nicolas Jackson, a promising striker from Villarreal. With Armando Broja also in the fray, the path to the first XI is not easy.
Mauricio Pochettino will have decisions to make and a strong showing in pre-season and training will aid Fofana’s cause. That is, of course, assuming the Blues don’t bring in a number nine who is a sure starter.
The Blues will need to make a decision regarding Fofana’s future, including whether or not he is ready to play for the team next season. If not, a season-long loan looks like the best choice so that he can develop into an accomplished striker.
It will be far better if any Premier League team expresses interest in keeping him on loan since he will adjust to the league’s tempo. Fofana has talent but will need to polish it before he can be trusted to lead the line in Blue.

He might be an excellent fit for a newly promoted team like Luton Town or Burnley because they can provide him with playing time. Pochettino will ultimately decide whether to keep the player or loan him out, though.
