Chelsea to make a move for Moises Caicedo with player sales taking place
As per journalist Simon Phillips (h/t Standard Live), Chelsea are preparing an imminent £80m bid for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo with player sales going well.
The Blues have agreed a £30m deal to sell Mateo Kovacic to Manchester City. Arsenal are ready to pay £65m to sign Kai Havertz in the coming days. They will also get money from a few of the players signing for clubs in Saudi Arabia (ft. Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy and co.).
The report reveals that the money earned from the Havertz sale would be used in making a bid for Caicedo. The Ecuador international is the leading candidate for manager Mauricio Pochettino to build his midfield around at Stamford Bridge.
With Kovacic and N’Golo Kante gone, there is a gaping hole in central midfield for Chelsea. Even Mason Mount is close to a move to Manchester United if the fee agreement takes place.
So, it makes a lot of sense to spend big money on signing a player like Caicedo. The 21-year-old is an exceptional player who can operate in multiple positions in midfield and has played at right-back in the recent past and did well there.
The Brighton man is a technically and tactically superior player to many in Europe and the world. He understands the situation well and can play the holding role or go on the offensive as per the requirement.
His immense work rate and accuracy on the ball should work well in a partnership with Enzo Fernandez in central midfield. The latter is more of a passer who likes to dictate games on the ball. The former can do the running and also boss games.
