As per a tweet from transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, there is no advancement in the talks between Chelsea and N’Golo Kante over the subject of a new contract in the coming days.
Kante, whose contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of this month (Transfermarkt), mentioned in an interview a few days ago that he wants to stay at the club and be a part of the future.
Romano’s tweet reveals that the two Saudi Arabia clubs – Al Nassr and Al Ittihad are interested in signing the 2018 World Cup winner. The money they potentially can offer would blow anyone’s mind out.
After missing a major part of the 2022/23 season due to an injury, Kante was Chelsea’s midfielder when he came back for the final few games. It shows that when fit and available, the 32-year-old is still the go-to man for the Blues in midfield.
We do not know what sort of discussions are taking place between the people of both camps. But, from the fans’ viewpoint, the hope is that it gets sorted out soon in a positive way.
Although the former Leicester City legend is 32 now, he can still give two or three fantastic seasons to Chelsea. Now, is the club hesitant in offering him the big money because of his dodgy injury record in the last 18 months? Possibly so.
That is where, if the player is interested in staying at the club, he can compromise a bit and negotiate a wage structure and contract length that can suit both parties given his recent availability mishap.
With Chelsea potentially letting go of an experienced midfielder like Mateo Kovacic this summer, they cannot afford to let Kante go and hope that the younger player additions will do the trick. Sometimes, an older head in the middle of the park helps.
