Chelsea back underperforming star’s key step to rediscover game-changing touch

Chelsea back Mykhaylo Mudryk participation in the U21 European Championship for Ukraine

Chelsea have backed the decision made by Mykhaylo Mudryk to make himself available for the U21 Ukraine team ahead of the European Championship.

According to the Times, (h/t Football.London) Mudryk is keen on representing Ukraine U21 for Euros to find his groove, which has impressed manager Mauricio Pochettino. This is a good step for a player who has fallen way below expectations at Stamford Bridge in his debut campaign in England.

However, as per the report, it remains to be seen if the national team will call him for the tournament. Nevertheless, the Blues have supported his decision to go out and find a solution for his struggles.

The youngster who joined the West Londoners in January endured a dry spell at the club and barely played for the club, starting only seven games. The 22-year-old however is enjoying a good spell with his national side against Germany.

While Mudryk impressed, his performance also drew criticism, as the 22-year-old dropped some questionable decisions in the games. There were enough moments that showcased his true strengths and hinted at the potential that lies underneath.

Mauricio Pochettino is expected to start his reign on July 1, and the Blues’ pre-season tour of the United States doesn’t begin until August 2 anyway. This gives Mudryk time to hone his game and rediscover his confidence before the new campaign kicks off.

Considering that he did not play in enough matches at Chelsea, which undoubtedly impacted his self-assurance, this is a very sensible decision made by the Ukrainian, and should hopefully help him rediscover his feet.

More Chelsea News:

Mudryk is exceptionally talented, yet at only 22 years old, he is still developing. Although he possesses talent and ability, his execution is still unstable, and the youngster has displayed his brilliance in patches. With time, his passing and decision-making skills will improve, and with Pochettino at the club, he will hopefully fulfill his potential.
