Chelsea make improved offer for 22-year-old star to beat PSG in transfer race

Fabrizio Romano reveals Mauricio Pochettino has urged Chelsea to sign Manuel Ugarte.

Chelsea submit an improved offer for PSG target and Sporting CP star Mauel Ugarte

Chelsea have offered Manuel Ugarte an increased wage in an effort to compete with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for his services.

According to Record, (h/t Football.London), Chelsea apparently increased their initial offer of a £2 million base salary to a €3 million (£3 million) salary plus a variety of performance-based rewards and incentives.

Given that the 22-year-old’s contract contains a £52 million release clause, it appears like Chelsea will make their first signing under Mauricio Pochettino.

But now that PSG and the Blues are actively pursuing his signing, it’s up to the Sporting CP player to decide which club he wants to join and what his future will be.

The Blues are looking for backups for Mateo Kovacic, who is in talks to join Manchester City and N’Golo Kante’s contract is still not renewed.

Additionally, the West Londoners intend to sign Caicedo in addition to Ugarte. Chelsea is looking for a midfielder to pair alongside Enzo Fernandez in the middle of the pitch.

Ugarte is also greatly admired by Pochettino, who called the player to persuade him to sign with Chelsea.

Hopefully, we secure this deal. It’s good to see the club working to sign him, as we need a top defensive midfielder for next season. But just signing youngsters doesn’t make sense; we need an experienced midfielder at the club who can help the young midfielders develop.

More Chelsea News:

That is why it is important that we either keep N’Golo Kante here for next season or look for another experienced midfielder to add to the mix after Jorginho’s exit in January. Otherwise, the deal for Ugarte makes complete sense and there is no reason why we shouldn’t be chasing the young, dynamic defensive midfielder.
