Chelsea join Barcelona and Liverpool in race to sign Gabri Veiga

According to the Guardian, (h/t Metro) Chelsea have entered the competition to sign youngster Gabri Veiga from Celta de Vigo.

Following a failure with the acquisition of Manuel Ugarte, Mauricio Pochettino has already encouraged the club to bring in one central midfielder. Chelsea are currently interested in signing Veiga, while Barcelona and Liverpool are also intrigued.

The West Londoners are prepared to make a strong drive to acquire him, but it won’t be simple considering Liverpool and Barcelona are keen on purchasing the midfielder.

The Reds are looking to overhaul their midfielder, and now they have already signed Alexis MacAllister from Brighton Hove & Albion, while the Spanish club is looking for Sergio Busquets’ replacement.

The Blues are in serious need of a defensive midfielder but Veiga is more of a progressive ball handler who likes to carry the ball forward.

Since Ugarte is currently out of the picture, Romeo Lavia is another choice for the Blues’ defensive midfield position. These players can support the Argentine midfielder when he is higher up the pitch.

If Chelsea want to sign either of them, they will need to act soon because other clubs would also be eager to do so. Viega can play with Enzo and can be honed into becoming a proper box-to-box midfielder for us.

Liverpool and Barcelona are also competitors and the Catalan giants can be a dream option for any player in the world – especially if they want to remain in La Liga. The Reds, meanwhile, might also be a fantastic fit for a 21-year-old. As a result, a bidding war may break out if all three teams are ready to submit offers.

Let’s see how this pans out. Veiga has had one good season with Celta Vigo so the question will rise if that is worth breaking the bank for. Don’t we already have too many young players who are yet to prove themselves? Why not go for a more experienced player who is a more sure-shot chance at Premier League success.
