Chelsea are the frontrunners to sign Moises Caicedo after Arsenal withdrew their interest
As per the Telegraph (subscription required), Chelsea are leading the race to sign Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo following the withdrawal of interest from Arsenal.
The Gunners were in the race to sign the Ecuador international, but the report reveals that they are now focused on getting West Ham United’s Declan Rice over the line.
It is also shared that although Chelsea are in a great position to land Caicedo, the trouble of forging a deal with Brighton is still there.
The Seagulls owner Tony Bloom value the player as high as £120m, which is clearly a fantasy world. The 21-year-old is a fantastic young player with Premier League experience, but a price tag that high is not warranted.
To crack the deal wide open in their favour, Chelsea could offer a few players to make sure they are forced to pay an astronomically high transfer fee to sign their target.
The club has overspent on players under the current regime. They signed the likes of Mykhaylo Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez for far more than they are valued in the football market. Repeating the same mistake to get Caicedo would be stupidity, to be honest.
The summer transfer window has only just begun. A lot can happen in the coming days or weeks. What Chelsea can do is agree on personal terms with the player and weaken Brighton’s hand with regard to their steep asking price.
Caicedo is that sort of a player who could make a lot of difference in the Blues midfield. He has the technical ability to go with tactical understanding and an elite work rate.
