Chelsea and Inter Milan hit a buy-back clause stumbling block in a deal for Trevoh Chalobah
As per Football.London, Chelsea and Inter Milan hit a roadblock in their bid to crack a deal for 23-year-old centre-back Trevoh Chalobah during this summer transfer window.
It is revealed that both clubs are negotiating a deal where Inter will sign Chalobah on loan with an obligation to buy. However, Chelsea want to include a buy-back clause once the move becomes permanent.
The latter turns out to be a stumbling block in the negotiation. It remains to be seen whether there will be a compromise sooner rather than later.
A few days ago, Chalobah talked about his future at Stamford Bridge and did not close the door to a move to Inter this summer. The Serie A side are extremely interested in signing the defender.
The other part of the report is that Chelsea are looking to trim a bloated squad with player sales this summer under the watchful eyes of new boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Chalobah, who has struggled for consistent game time here under previous managers, is one of the many who would potentially leave the club in the coming days.
Chelsea have already agreed a deal to sell Mateo Kovacic to Manchester City. An agreement in principle is in place for Kai Havertz to move to Arsenal. N’Golo Kante is now in Al Ittihad.
The Blues have turned down a second offer from Manchester United for Mason Mount. It would be interesting to see how long the club can remain stubborn with their valuation for the Englishman, knowing that his contract expires next summer.

Coming back to Chalobah, let’s hope that a compromise is reached and Inter get to sign him. He is a very good player who could do with regular game time. Just look at how well Fikayo Tomori is doing at AC Milan after an unsettling period at Chelsea due to a lack of consistent minutes.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have to be aware that they don’t weaken their depth at the back. Chalobah can be an important bench player but perhaps the player harbours bigger ambitions. It shouldn’t discourage us from signing an upgrade on him.
