28-year-old Chelsea star wins honorable yearly Premier League award

Kepa Arrizabalaga’s triple save for Chelsea against Aston Villa wins him the Premier League save of the season

Chelsea star Kepa Arrizabalaga has been named the Premier League save of the season after making three consecutive saves in their 2-0 victory over Aston Villa in October at Villa Park last year.

The Spanish custodian had a terrible season, and the Blues are now thinking about selling him during the summer transfer window. After Eduoard Mendy’s injury, the 28-year-old was reinstated into Chelsea’s starting lineup this year.

However, the former Athletico Bilbao player was able to make the most of it and experienced a bad season where he conceded a lot of extremely simple goals, raising concerns about his future at Chelsea.

Mendy, meanwhile, is anticipated to depart the Blues in the summer transfer window after being courted by Tottenham Hotspur. Chelsea are also said to be considering a trade that would send the Senegalese to Inter and bring Andre Onana to Stamford Bridge, the Senegalese.

As he prepares to take over the club in the coming weeks, incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino would want the club to have a top custodian. But Chelsea’s first job is to reduce its excessively large squad in order to make way for new signings.

Congratulations to Kepa! He definitely deserved to win despite having a bad season. But given that he spent the majority of Thomas Tuchel’s time on the bench and hardly played, it’s unfortunate that his performance has declined. There may not be many explanations for this.

Furthermore, we cannot entirely place the blame on him considering our permeable defence, ineffective attacking players, and the rash decisions made by the new owners. This has contributed to the team’s overall decline and there isn’t much a goalkeeper can do in such circumstances.

However, his time at Stamford Bridge seems to be up. Poch wants a consistent first-team No. 1 and it is best we try to offload the Spanish international, and Mendy, to free up space on the wage bill and raise funds to sign a top star like Onana – or someone else of similar stature.
