Chelsea prepared to offer Conor Gallagher in a swap exchange for Moises Caicedo
Chelsea are keen on sending Conor Gallagher to Brighton & Hove Albion in part-exchange for Moises Caicedo.
According to the Mirror, Chelsea have been pushing to sign Caicedo and are expected to start the negotiation with the Seagulls as their top target after Arsenal withdrew from the race.
However, major problems remain with Caicedo’s valuation, which is around £100 million, which could prove to be too much for the Blues given the club’s need to balance their wages.
Following their splurge in the transfer window, the Blues are on a financial fair play tightrope and cannot manage to spend that much unless they offload some players in the summer window.
They also have to unload many players in order to reduce their bloated squad for next season. The England international played a lot of games this season but that was arguably because of the lack of quality in our midfield
It is unclear what happens if and when Chelsea sign truly world-class players. Fans would recall what a terrible start Gallagher had to the season, but in his defence, his teammates didn’t fare any better.
Chelsea are also open to selling the midfielder, with Newcastle United also monitoring the player’s situation. Gallagher joining Brighton or the Magpies will be beneficial to the England international because he can get a sufficient amount of playing time.
Roberto de Zerbi can also help to further develop the 23-year-old’s characteristics, given that he helped Kaoru Mitoma and Levi Colwill grow into outstanding players at Brighton. But we have to make sure that his sale benefits us.

It should either get us a huge fee from Newcastle or reduce Caicedo’s valuation considerably. Gallagher is, after all, a Premier League-level midfielder yet to reach his prime years. The fact that he is English also helps our cause.
The arrival of the Ecuadorian will be a major coup as we will finally have a top defensive midfielder for the upcoming campaign. Caicedo, who is just 21, has already established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and can only get better under Mauricio Pochettino’s guidance.
