Young Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei giving Mauricio Pochettino an option with impressive U20 World Cup displays
Young Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei is doing all he can to offer Mauricio Pochettino an option in that department with impressive displays in the U20 World Cup.
Casadei has been Italy’s top scorer in the tournament leading them all the way to the final, where they will face Uruguay.
The 20-year-old, who is yet to make his senior debut for Chelsea, has scored seven goals and assisted two in six appearances in that competition so far. All of it while playing as a central midfielder.
The young Italian has the attributes to do well if Pochettino wants to include as part of the senior squad from next season onwards.
Chelsea are losing key midfielders this summer, with N’Golo Kante leaving for Saudi club Al Ittihad and Mateo Kovacic moving to Manchester City. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is close to an AC Milan switch while Mason Mount is nearing a Manchester United signature.
Although the Blues are in the race to sign Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo, they would need more in the central midfield department to do better next season.
Casadei is a number eight that can offer great value in both boxes. He will add goals from midfield, can create chances, is aerially strong in both boxes and reads the game well off the ball.
Moreover, Pochettino likes to work with top young players and develop them into elite talents in just a few years’ time. Casadei has it in him to do well in the Argentine’s high-pressing system and become a key player for Chelsea.
