According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Manchester United are not willing to pay Chelsea’s asking price for Mason Mount. United are interested in signing the midfielder, who is open to joining them in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old is valued at £60 million by the Blues, but United are reluctant to make that kind of payment. The West Londoners, though, want to keep the England international, and manager Mauricio Pochettino also wants the playmaker to be a part of the new project.
Mount still had one more year left on his contract, so Chelsea would be better off losing him and earning some money from his transfer rather than losing him for nothing.
And now Ben Jacobs has given an update on the Mount saga, (h/t Football.London), telling GivemeSport:
“This is a high priority for Erik ten Hag, but Manchester United are adamant that they need to be disciplined with Mount. They need to try and get him for under £60 million, and that, as I’ve said before, is because Manchester United’s transfer policy is restricted.”
If United are able to bring down the price tag for the England international, it could be a bargain deal for the club. They would get a homegrown player for a decent sum who is yet to reach his prime years. He can also play in multiple positions in midfield and attack.
With the signing of Mount, United will put our forbearance to the test, and we must resist pulling back. But it also depends on the circumstances because Mount’s contract situation makes it hard for us to put our point across.
Therefore, the club must choose whether to accept their offer or wait for them to match Mount’s valuation. Hopefully, they can incite a bidding war. There is hardly a better way to drive up a player’s price tag. Hopefully, Liverpool come back into the picture for him and give Manchester United a tussle for the 24-year-old.
